R. F. O'Sullivan's, located at 151 Central Avenue in Lynn, closed on Sunday, April 2, according to a post on the restaurant's Facebook written by Richard O'Sullivan.

The restaurant was well-known for its extensive list of burger options, all made with half-pound servings of lean ground sirloin. Along with more classic options were inventive creations like the 'Chinatown,' which had a burger filled with teriyaki sauce, and the top favorite 'Blackjack' complete with cajun spices, creole mayonnaise, and melted cheddar cheese.

The family-run operation spent a long time considering whether they wanted to accept the offer on their property, the Facebook post said, and decided to do so as each member of the O'Sullivan family had a new venture to look forward to.

"My wife and I are looking forward to what retirement life has to offer after dedicating 48 years to the business," O'Sullivan wrote. "Our two children, who have worked alongside us, have also decided it is time to move on to the next chapter in their lives."

The O'Sullivans' daughter, Sinead, is pregnant with her second child and is pivoting to focusing on her family, the post said. Richard, the O'Sullivans' son, will focus on his business ventures in Boston, including a new restaurant that will be opening in the coming months.

"20 years of a solid, amazing and delicious burger experience," one commenter said. "I’ve never been so dedicated to any place as I have yours. Happy Retirement Sully!"
